Important Update: New Guest Registration Requirements

We know you might have seen some dramatic headlines or articles about new guest registration laws in Spain, and we understand you may have concerns or worries. Let us reassure you: while there have been updates to the law, very little has changed in practice. These requirements have always existed in some form, and the recent changes are more about clarifying the rules rather than making things stricter.
Here’s everything you need to know – simply explained and without the hype.
What Really Happened?
Spain recently updated its guest registration regulations (BOE-A-2021-17461). These updates are designed to make the process more consistent across all types of accommodation, from hotels and resorts to holiday apartments like ours.
Some articles in the media may have over-hyped the changes, suggesting they are invasive or a major hassle. However, the truth is:
- The changes are not new; they simply formalise and clarify existing requirements.
- This is standard practice across Spain, so it’s not unique to Kingfisher Apartments.
- Most of what’s needed has already been a routine part of checking in.
What Do You Need to Do?
We only need a little information from you – and most of it is the same as what you’ve always provided.
For each guest:
- Full Name
- Date of Birth
- Gender
- National Identification Number (NIF), Foreigner Identification Number (NIE/TIE), or Passport Number
- Full Address
- Mobile Number or Email
For children under 14, ID is not required, but we do need:
- Their name
- Date of Birth
- Gender
- Relationship to the primary guest
The primary guest (the person making the booking) will also need to provide:
- A clear copy of their ID (passport, NIE, or equivalent)
- A selfie to verify the ID
Has Anything Really Changed?
Not much! These updates simply formalise what has been common practice. You’ve likely already provided most of this information during previous bookings in Spain.
What’s new:
- The law now applies to all accommodation types, ensuring consistency.
- A selfie verification step has been added for the primary guest to make the process even more secure.
- Minors of all ages must now provide information along with the relationship to the main guest.
When Do We Need This?
To make your check-in seamless, we’ll ask you to provide this information before your arrival. In fact, we will start reminding you up to 7 days before you arrive, so you will have plenty of time to complete it in advance.
Once we’ve received and verified it, your check-in process will be smooth and straightforward.
